FAQs for ReaderCON:
Okay, so what’s the address of where this event is going to be held?
The La Quinta Public Library is located at 78275 Calle Tampico on the Civic Center Campus in the beautiful city of La Quinta. Check out the map for more details.
So, really, this event is FREE?
Yes! The only requirement for this event is a Riverside County Library System (RCLS) library card.
Do I need a Riverside County Library System library card to pre-register?
What if I don't have a library card?
You can get one for free if you've never had a card before from any library in the Riverside County Library System. Here's the website to find your local library: Riverside County Library System. You can also get a library card on the day of the event.
Because we know it will be busy, we HIGHLY recommend you get your library card prior to ReaderCON.
What do I need to get a library card?
You will need to visit your local Riverside County Library System library with your valid and current Photo ID or Driver's License. If you've had a card before, you will need to get a replacement card. Fines incurred prior to the event will remain intact, and will not affect your ability to join in the fun.
Will my Rancho Mirage Library and my Palm Springs Library card work?
No, they are City libraries not County.
What if I live in Indian Wells?
You cannot get a free library card from the Riverside County Library System if you live in Indian Wells. Indian Wells withdrew from the County in 1968. If you want a library card through RCLS and live in Indian Wells, you will have to pay $10 for a card.
What if my child wants a library card?
You will need to fill out a Library Card Application for your child (aged 17 and under). The application will need the child's parent/guardian's signature and Photo ID/Driver's License number. A table will be set up outside the library to distribute applications for children on the day of the event but you are welcome to get one beforehand.
What if I don't want a library card?
In lieu of having/getting a library card to enter the event, you can give a suggested donation of $5 to the Friends of the La Quinta Library on the day of the event. Your donation gets you the "Friend for the Day" tote bag. Friends of the La Quinta Library is a chapter of the Friends of the Desert Libraries, a 501 c(3) non-profit organization. All donations and proceeds received support free library programs and events. You will only be able to register the day of the event if you do not have/want a library card!
*NOTE: La Quinta Library staff cannot make change! If you need to get cash, please visit the nearest ATM/Bank. Information for ATM locations will be provided the day of the event.
What if I don't want to donate?
It's fine. But you'll still need to register on the day of the event to receive a bag.
Now I'm curious. What's in the bag??
There will be two different types of bags: In the blue La Quinta Library bag, there is a lanyard, badge, incentives and tickets. Pre-registrants will have the same, but different incentives. The "Friend for the Day" tote bag will feature the same lanyard, badge and tickets, but like pre-registrants, it will have different incentives and your money is going towards funding programs for the La Quinta Library. Please note all incentives are available while supplies last!
Did you say tickets?
Yes, there will be a carnival behind the library. Each bag will have 5 free tickets to enjoy the games.
Just 5? What if I want more?
If you want more tickets, a donation of $5 to the Friends of the Library will get you 10 more tickets.
What are the different ways to donate at the event?
You can use cash or PayPal. You must have exact change however, if you use cash. The email will be provided for PayPal the day of the event and you must show confirmation prior to receiving the Friends' bag.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
You can enter the La Quinta Library parking lot off of Calle Tampico or Main St. The asphalt parking is designated for library patrons. Gravel parking is designated for ReaderCON attendees. There is also a bus stop right next to the library (going out of the Cove). The one for entering the Cove is at the Ralph's Shopping Center, across the street. Please use the cross walk!
Will there be a Cosplay Contest?
What age groups can join the Cosplay Contest?
All ages are welcome to join the Cosplay Contest.
What are the Cosplay Guidelines?
Cosplay Guidelines will be posted in the library prior to the event. All Cosplay participants must visit the Check-in table and adhere to the Cosplay Guidelines prior to entering the event and contest. Please remember this is a family event and no unsheathed weapons will be allowed in the library!
For more information and a copy of the Cosplay Guidelines, please contact: Sue Duran at 760-771-0238 or email: email@example.com
Will there be food available?
Yes, there will be a few vendor trucks available. There are also local eateries that will gladly accept your patronage. All locations and their addresses will be made available the day of the event at the Information Booth.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Can I update my registration information?
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes, this is preferred so that we can check you in more easily.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
